Experiencing Inbound Firsthand
Juniata is known for its amazing traditions. From Madrigal to Mountain Day, there are many fun events that are planned for the students all throughout the year. One of the favorite activities that Juniata has is that of Inbound.
Inbound is designed for the incoming freshmen, transfer, and international students. It is a retreat program that helps the new students get to know each other and their new environment a few days before classes start. There are many different retreats that students can choose to join, all involving different themes. From theatre and mountain biking, to community service and dance, there is something for everyone.

I am a light sleeper, so it’s normal for me to wake up in the middle of the night. This time though, it was not just an oddity of the night…
It was a Monday morning, and I just spent the Sunday before preparing for the week ahead. I went to bed dreading the busy day to come, Monday’s are my most packed day of the week. I sleep next to the window in my apartment. This means I can hear everything outside. When I opened my eyes that morning, I was confused. Instead of morning birds chirping, there were…air horns? And celebration yelling?
(more…)On the Ins and Outs of Outdoor Education
On Monday, April 1st no prank could prevent the return of beloved Juniata alum Zachary Adams. The 2017 graduate returned to campus to talk to students about his recent experiences working in the field of environmental education. I was very excited for the opportunity to speak to Zach because I also want to pursue environmental education as a bird guide. Before the talk, some of the upperclassmen from the wildlife society hosted Zach for a meet and greet at their house, just off-campus. I was eager to attend! I got to spend the better part of an hour talking to Zach about his time as a student, his career, and his life while also socializing with my fellow wildlifers. To top it all off, we ate pizza from Domino’s!
(more…)The Infamous HOBO Hike
The HOBO Hike is a rite of passage for all business students at Juniata. Everyone on campus knows about it, but only a select few have really experienced it. It’s a mystical and cryptic field trip that you’ll immediately hear fellow Juniatians talking about, but they don’t reveal what exactly it is. To start, let’s break down what HOBO is; the actual name of the course is Behavioral Analysis of Organizations. However, it was originally called something like Human Behavior in Organizations. The professor at the time decided HBO was already taken, so he threw in the “O” to separate it from the TV channel. And so, the class was dubbed HOBO and it has remained that way ever since.

Hola amigos.
I am writing you from the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador. I am here in the archipelago until May for my study abroad semester.
Through Juniata, I am taking courses in a marine based track in the Galápagos Academic Institute for the Arts and Sciences (GAIAS) program with Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ). I spent my first month living with a family in Quito. During that time, I completed a week-long Spanish intensive course and my first module, which included a 7-day trip to the coast of Ecuador. I also took advantage of being on the mainland and traveled during my free time.
