Life on the Video Production Team
Having a job at Juniata as a student employee has created many different stories for me. I have worked for the soccer team collecting balls on the sidelines during the game, I have packed backpacks with food for students at the local elementary school, and I had assumed the Video Production Team (VPT) would be a similar experience. I would learn and develop skills that I can use in the future. Better yet, hone ones I didn’t even know I had. However, no campus job could have prepared me for what the VPT had in store.
One of the activities we take part in the VPT is called monthlies. Every monthly meeting we are split into groups and assigned a project, for example, our most recent is to make a spooky video because it is October. We work on these projects as groups, planning filming, acting, etc., and the final product is shared with the team in our next meeting. Out of all parts of the process, the most enjoyable aspect for me is working with my team members, creating and watching our ideas come to life. Sometimes they will throw in a requirement, such as including a Dutch angle, in our project to help us get more practice and gain more experience. These are often challenging, but they lead us to find new and imaginative ways to incorporate them into our projects.

“What made Juniata stand out?”
“What made me choose Juniata?”
I’ve been indecisive my whole life. Questions like “What should we have for dinner tonight?” always stressed me out. It’s not that I think questions like this are particularly difficult to answer, but without enough information to make a distinct pro/con list—or worse, when the pros and cons are evenly balanced—I’d rather not make the final decision.

Time is Money: Advancing Your Career in an Expedited Fashion
Time is money, literally. Juniata College recently launched a four-year, two-degree business program that aims at helping business professionals hit the ground running and reach their career goals faster. With the program, students are expected to obtain both a bachelor’s degree in Business and an MBA at the end of their four-year journey at Juniata College, a nationally ranked liberal arts college.
The Importance of Credentialing
In my 20 years of professional experience, I’ve witnessed how credentialing plays a critical role in career advancement. When I worked at a Big Four accounting/consulting firm, I saw many colleagues lose out on the promotion opportunities because they did not have an advanced degree in hand. Some of these folks chose to enroll in MBA programs while working full time, spending weekday nights and weekends to finish course requirements. Some were able to finish the degrees in two to five years, at the cost of their physical, mental health, or even family time; while others failed to complete the programs simply because they were not able to strike the work-school-life balance. Some chose to quit their jobs and studied full time, but they would be risking their already-established career trajectory. The struggle takes place over and over again.
