What I wish I knew – Taylor Hallabuk ’20

Taylor Hallabuk ’20, Strategic Communication POE, Free spirit navigating life through Kesha songs and spontaneity

One of my favorite Juniata Communication professors, Grace Fala, always says, “Knowing what you don’t know is wisdom. Not knowing what you don’t know is ignorance.” So, I like to think that I was a pretty wise eighteen-year-old beginning my college career. I knew that I didn’t know how to study, I knew I had poor time management skills, and I most definitely knew that on my first day of freshman year at Arcadia University, that I had chosen the wrong college for me. Some might call that foolish, but ask Grace Fala – she’ll tell you it’s wisdom.

Pennsylvania American Fisheries Society Meeting at Juniata

-Stephanie Letourneau ’20 , Environmental Science POE, Dimpled, outdoor loving, MD girl, pursuing passions

Juniata College hosted the Pennsylvania American Fisheries Society (AFS) Chapter’s 2020 Technical Meeting on February 6th and 7th. What is AFS you might be wondering? One of our professors at Juniata in the Environmental Science Department, Dr. George Merovich, is the President Elect for the PA AFS Chapter and helped plan this meeting. In addition, Dr. Merovich is the advisor for our student American Fisheries Society club on campus. This year I serve as treasurer for the club.

Summer Reflection: NOAA Ernest F. Hollings Scholarship

I was honored at the end of my sophomore year to receive the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Ernest F. Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship for 2018. This scholarship program provides financial assistance for two academic years and one summer internship between junior and senior year. I am thankful for the help of my advisers and Dr. Buonaccorsi, the biology professor who is the Juniata adviser for the application. He did not really know who I was, but was willing to help me throughout the whole application process and my essay.

Summer in January – My Short-Term Study Abroad Experience in Chile

The seasons are predictable. Winter turns to spring––usually slower than we hope. Spring then turns to summer, which turns to autumn and before we know it…winter comes again. This year, however, I broke this cycle. This year, summer came in January. Well, at least for me and 15 other Juniata students. This was no anomaly or freak incident of nature, but rather a short-term abroad trip to Chile.

What I wish I knew – Theo Weinberger ’21

The first semester of your senior year of high school is one characterized by a period of strife and stress also known as the college application process. College applications, commonly full of looming deadlines and standardized testing, are a main point of stress in what would otherwise be a wind down year for students who are nearing the end of their four year stretch of public schooling. If I could tell my 17 year old self something about the college admission process, I would tell myself not to take the application personally, and to focus my efforts on finding the best matched school for me.
