Julius Caesar at Juniata College

This semester I had the honor of performing in Juniata’s fall production of William Shakespeare’s, Julius Caesar. One of the things that I really enjoyed doing before coming to college was performing in my school’s shows, and when I heard that Juniata was going to be putting on Julius Caesar, I knew that it was something that I definitely wanted to be a part of.

The Gambian Art Coalition – Part 2

In the summer of 2019, I spent five and a half weeks in The Gambia, West Africa. Three of those weeks were spent studying politics and culture with 19 other Juniata students, and two and a half were spent working for the Gambian Art Coalition.

As a sophomore at Juniata I became the co-founder of the non-profit organization known as the Gambian Art Coalition. Exactly one year later, (as of November 18th, 2019), I am knee-deep in organizing sales and presentations, working with interns and business professionals, and coordinating buying trips and budgets. Being the co-founder and Director of Communications and Marketing of an international non-profit organization was not something I thought I would be doing while earning my undergraduate degree at Juniata College.

My Plexus Inbound Experience.

I had the pleasure of meeting members of Plexus (a student organization that represents and serves underrepresented students from many different backgrounds) before classes started this fall and getting to bond during Inbound (which is a program for first-year students coming to campus a week before classes start to connect with fellow students with shared interests.) Many of us came from places where we either lived in cities or urban suburbs, so Huntingdon seemed a bit new to us. We experienced a multitude of activities together such as a high ropes course, exploring Lincoln Caverns, and a diversity workshop. We also almost always ate breakfast and dinner together each day of Inbound to signify a family meal

My Two Worlds – Reflecting on Fall Break

Going home for the first time after being gone for two months is a weird experience to say the least. I was of course ecstatic to go home, see family and old friends, sleep in my own bed, and most importantly see my dog. Although, I couldn’t help but feel slightly conflicted when I got there. I found myself wanting to walk around campus, or go to Baker with friends. I even caught myself instinctively grabbing my dorm room key when I walked out of my house. Home is home, but Juniata is becoming my new home as well. It took me a minute to get accustomed to being home again, reverting back to an old schedule I’d had for so long. I spent four nights back in New Jersey, and Sunday came way too soon. I felt like I just left Juniata and now I was leaving all over again.

What I wish I knew – Juliana Shugar ’23

The college admissions process can be a scary time. Trying to figure out where you are going to spend the next four years of your life can prove to be a daunting task, but the process is different for everyone. Some people know from their first year of high school where they want to go, and others, like myself, will take a little bit longer to make that decision. In retrospect, looking back at my application process, there is something that I wish I knew. I was researching so many different schools with different programs in different states and it got quite overwhelming. Juniata was one of those schools, but I had no clue that it would be the college I would pick. Looking back, I wish that I knew that I didn’t have to worry; that I would pick the right school, and for me, that school was Juniata College.
